Self-Love is not Selfish.
Selfishness is not the same thing as Self-Love. You were warned not to be selfish when you were younger, like when you wouldn’t share your toys with others. Selfish is being concerned only with yourself and no one else. It’s ego-driven, as you attempt to gain material goods, use others for your own gain, and think you are far superior to others due to your talents, knowledge, actions and more, while looking down on others as “beneath you”. Selfishness is not considering or caring about the needs, thoughts, wishes, or emotions of others. It is being completely self-absorbed. It is thinking your way is the only way. It is helping others only to receive something in return. It can take many forms, both blatant or subtle, which makes it important to be able to discern the truth to understand whether someone is of Love or hasn’t yet arrived into a state of Love.
At times we may feel selfish when we are exhausted, famished, angry or hurt, and we lash out, clam up or sink into ourselves. This is not true selfishness, but a sign we need self-love as our emotions are letting us know we need to address our own issue, go within, process, release and heal from the situation creating our emotional reaction. This helps us move forward in life, connecting to our inner selves, our higher selves and our heart center.
Self-Love is Self-Care, Self-Nuturing, Self-Compassion, Self-Kindness and more.
Self-Love is taking care of your needs to allow you to be whole and healthy. It’s loving yourself enough to be confident in your thoughts, words and actions, yet expressing openness, compassion and understanding for those of others. It is taking the time to eat healthy, exercise, meditate, and heal physically, mentally & emotionally, to be completely authentic. It is knowing when you need to rest, versus pushing into exhaustion for others. It is sharing your gifts with others to help them and yourself. It is knowing you create your own happiness, peace & Love.
Self-Love is being a kind, loving and caring human being to you, and all around you, including all of Nature. It is recognizing while you are an individual, unique soul, you are also part of the One, and what you do to another, is done to you. It is choosing positive actions, thoughts and words to help you and everyone around you. As thoughts, words and actions are all energy. We are all energy, sharing, giving and exchanging energy all the time. Choosing positive, love-filled energy to share and give is our purpose. Moving into a more love-centered world is our purpose. Our purpose includes unique gifts and talents all our own, yet it is still to share and give them with Love.
Self-Love is all about going back to Love, and living Love more and more. It is pausing to ask yourself what is the motivation behind my words, thoughts and actions? Ego or Love driven? If ego, it is time to discover why and heal from it, allowing the heart, or Love to lead you, versus the ego. It is being aware and open enough to listen more than speak, both to others and your higher self, your Divine Center, your soul. Self-Love is understanding and listening more to your truth, than that of others, although being wise enough to listen to others’ beliefs to see if it resonates with you in some way. It is seeking knowledge for growth, wisdom and transformation to “Awaken a more brilliant version of you™” to give and share of your true self, while having the discernment to know who else lives with Self-Love. As we connect more with others who are living in Love with Self-Love, we increase this energy to share with others who need it the most. We are creating a wave of wondrous Love, transforming ourselves, and showing others how to transform themselves.
I’d be honored to help you discover, deepen and shine your Self-Love through healing, transformation and awakening your authenticity to live in Love.
